To rotate models, place the cursor over the 3D area, then hold down the left mouse button as you move the cursor across the 3D area.

Samoan Adze With Digital Caliper

To use the digital caliper first click on the sphere. This resets the caliper. Then place the mouse cursor over the point you wish to start your measurement from and click once. Next do the same for a second point. Upon clicking the second time you will receive 4 measurements: Straight Line Distance, Matrix height, Matrix width, Matrix length. All distances are in millimeters. 1 mm equals 1 VRML unit of length. The Matrix height measurement is the distance along the Y axis of the matrix between the two points, width is measured along the Z axis, and length along the X axis. The text is distorted in the window because it is embedded in a web page. To view an undistorted version of the caliper, click here.

The digital caliper was written by Aaron
Bergstrom using a combination of VRML
script nodes and Javascript. An angle
caliper is under development.

*A decimated model, is a 3D model that has been compressed so that many of the points/polygons have been eliminated in order to speed up rendering time and decrease file sizes while attempting to retain the overall shape and accuracy of the model.
