Software

The Minolta Vivid 700 ships with free 3D rendering software. Though the lab uses this software to capture an artifact's 3D data, it is not powerful enough to properly align separately scanned 3D data sets. To properly align our 3D scans, the lab uses a 3D program designed for use by industrial manufacturers such as the automotive industry. This software, known as Polyworks/Modeler, is the workhorse of our 3D modeling needs. More information about Polyworks can be found on the InnovMetric web-site:

The ATL's other 3D editing software includes both AutoCad 2000 and 3D Studio Viz R2 Studio Viz. This version of 3D Studio Max is specially designed to interact with AutoCad, which gives the ATL the capability to render 3D reconstructions of archaeological sites.

The lab also uses Flash 4, Dreamweaver 2, and Photoshop 5.0 for general web-design.
